With Trump returning to the White House this month, the U.S. is closely watching what his second administration means for a long list of issue areas - including transportation policy.
The upcoming administration will oversee the execution of the last two years of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.
So far, the IIJA has authorized $.12 trillion in infrastructure and transportation funding, of which over 66% ($570 billion) has already been awarded.
This means that the Trump administration will have, $294 billion, including $87.2 billion in competitive grantmaking, to award toward infrastructure and transportation funding.
Historically the Trump administration has prioritized road expansion over public transportation projects when awarding federal transportation grants.
We can also expect this upcoming administration to prioritize public-private partnerships and roll back transportation regulations, as Trump emphasized in his previous infrastructure plan.
Furthermore, a second Trump administration will most likely deprioritize green projects - an area that the Biden administration has heavily focused on in transportation policy.
The PoliciPro team will stay up-to-date on the latest changes in transportation policy.
