October rounded out a hectic month for the gaming industry.  


In a last-minute twist, MGM withdrew its bid for a downstate New York casino. 


Nevada regulators warned gaming operators against entering the sports predictions market


Additionally, D.C. is considering legalizing card games in the District. 

 

Here are the latest updates impacting the gaming industry. 


Sports Betting


October 15: The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) issued a warning to current and future gaming licensees against offering sports predictions. The warning follows si,ilra ones from other gaming regulators in Michigan, Arizona, and Ohio


Casinos


October 1: Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser introduced the Poker and Blackjack Gaming Authorization Act of 2025 to the DC Council. The legislation would legalize wagering on card games in certain bars and restaurants within the district. 


October 14: MGM Resorts withdrew its bid for a downstate New York casino license. The announcement came after its proposal was unanimously approved by the local Community Advisory Committee (CAC). Yonkers Mayor Mike Cano has called for an investigation into MGM’s decision to withdraw. 


October 14: The Superior Court of Sacramento struck down California Tribal Casinos' lawsuit against cardrooms. Lawyers for Tribal casino operators announced the same day that they plan to appeal the ruling.


iGaming


October 3: Las Vegas Sands announced that it’s closing its digital gaming project. Instead, the operator will focus on international land-based gaming operations.  


Taxes & Revenue


October 17: New Jersey iGaming revenue reached $243.1 million for September. While it was one of the highest iGaming revenue months, it was the lowest year-over-year growth rate over the past six months at 16.8%.
