Artificial intelligence (AI) has been one of the most discussed topics in the media in the past year, and the political world is no different. Over 300 bills introduced this legislative session that PoliciPro has tracked mention its use in statehouses across the U.S.

Response to AI has been mixed. Citizens and elected officials either embraced this technological development, expressed concern over its proliferation and its impacts on society, or they fall somewhere in between.

State legislatures that have mentioned AI this year

State legislatures such as Washington's have introduced bills like SB5838 which, if passed, would establish an AI task force to assess and recommend future legislation regulating its usage.

In Arizona, SB1599 would consider AI, in certain circumstances, a deadly weapon if used to commit a crime.
