States that have introduced anti-DEI legislation since January of this year

In the aftermath of George Floyd in 2020, organizations, businesses, and universities of all sizes adopted solutions to become more racially and socially equitable.

However, recently these efforts have been targets of political backlash in some state legislatures. Right-leaning politicians, lawyers, and other public figures have been pushing back against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts across several industries.

Numerous states have introduced anti-DEI efforts and several lawsuits and complaints have been filed against equity initiatives across the U.S.

Florida, Texas, and Utah are just a few states that have passed anti-DEI efforts targeting public institutions, including public universities.

Bills in these states have restricted funding toward DEI initiatives, forced public universities to close their DEI offices, and banned government offices from promoting diversity.

Take a look at our anti-DEI tracking sheet below if you’re interested in keeping track of states introducing similar legislation.
