Sports Betting
On August 15th, the Missouri Gaming Commission selected Circa Sports and DraftKings to receive two of the state's untethered mobile sports betting licenses.
On August 18th, Robinhood announced that it will now offer NFL and college football predictions. The announcement follows the company's filed lawsuits against Nevada and New Jersey gaming regulators.
Taxes & Revenue
Commercial gaming revenue growth for the 2nd quarter grew by 9.8% year-over-year. Q2 was the 18th consecutive growth quarter with a total GGR of 19.44 billion for all gaming verticals.
On July 31st, the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) reported $43.9 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR) for FY 2024, an all-time high and 4.6% growth when compared to last year.
Casinos
In Pennsylvania, SB840 advanced to the state House Appropriations Committee, which would reduce the minimum slot machine requirements for racetracks (category 1) and stand-alone (category 2) casinos from 1,500 to 1,000. The change would enable operators to become more competitive by providing additional space for non-gaming activities.
A Sacramento judge delayed ruling on whether California tribes can sue state cardrooms under SB549, citing possible conflicts with federal gaming law, and set the next hearing for October 10.
Dozens of community members testified in support of Resorts World’s casino bid in Queens at a public advisory hearing on August 20th. Other downstate New York casino proposals have faced backlash and limited support from their respective community members.
